If Hydrogen became ranch dressing I assume someone must have found out how to use alchemy. Also although the air doesn't have much hydrogen in it, overall that's a lot of ranch dressing everywhere. People may resort to cannibalism for ranch dressing if it's good enough. So the one part your missing is apocalypse.
